Reykjavik City Sightseeing

The world's most northerly capital, Reykjavik is home to several places of historic and cultural interest, among them Árbæjarsafn Folk Museum, the Ásmundur Sveinsson Museum of Sculpture and the Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum, as well, of course, as the National Museum of Iceland.
Perlan is situated on the hill Öskjuhlíð where there had been hot water storage tanks for decades.
In one of the tank is a viking museum of the first settlers in Iceland.
Further options include a visit to Laugardalur, a parkland area in the heart of the city, complete with its own outdoor geothermal swimming- pool.
In the city centre itself, the Port of Reykjavík and harbour area, Icelands parliament, the Althing, the ultra-modern City Hall, and Harpa the concert house are just a few of the places well worth a visit.




Reykjavík-Blue Lagoon-Reykjavík

Located a short distance from the fishing port of Grindavík on the Reykjanes penisula in the southwest, the Blue Lagoon is today one of Iceland's most popular tourist attractions.
Created by water from the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant, its warm, mineral- rich waters are said to be effective in the treatment of psoriasis and a variety of other skin complaints and are certainly a great place for a swim and bathing.
Restaurant and hotel at the site.

Reykjanes Peninsula

We start in Reykjavik and drive through Hafnarfjörður along to Krisuvík the Reykjanes peninsula , situated in the southern part of the peninsula on the fissure zone of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The lake kleifarvatn and Seltún/Krýsuvík where the Volcanic heat has formed thermal springs, steam vents, mud pots and solfataras.Krísuvíkur kliff is the next stop, ther is the biggest bird kliff in the peninsual. Then we visit Grindavik, one of Iceland's fishing villages, and then to the west along southern Reykjanes peninsula, past Gunnuhver where we will observe active geothermal areas. Next, the tour leads to the country's oldest lighthouse, "Reykjanesviti" where spectacular birdlife can be viewed.
"The Bridge Between Continents", where the Eurasian and North America Plates are being forced apart, the geological record is clearly defined. Finally those who wish may go and relax in the world famous Blue Lagoon.




Reykjavík -Thingvellir - Nesjavellir -Reykjavík

Guided tour of the Nesjavellir geothermal power plant, source of some of the geothermal energy used to heat Reykjavík and the surrounding area, followed by a drive around the shores of Thingvallavatn, Iceland's largest lake, to Thingvellir historic site of the Old Icelandic Parliament. Today a national park, this priceless natural treasure, with its canyons, chasms and river, is an adventure in itself.
Further surprises await on the return trip to Reykjavík, including the massive explosion crater Kerið, the colourful birch woods at Thrastarlundur, and the garden village of Hveragerði, with its hot springs and greenhouses.




Northern lights / Aurora Borealis

The northern lights are a spectacular natural color display of light in the dark night sky, in relatively high latitudes near and in the polar zones. They occur in the ionosphere 100-250 km above the earth's surface, where the solar winds bring gas of free electron and positive ions. Iceland is ideally located for those who are interested in watching this unforgettable color display in the night sky between the end of August and mid April each year. The country is in the middle of the most active zone of the northern hemisphere.
We will not go on a northern lights tour unless the conditions are good.
